Don’t Get Burnt, Get Firewise

Firewise of Southwest Colorado will hold its “Don’t Get Burnt, Get Firewise” event on Sunday June 10, from 1-5pm at the La Plata County Fairgrounds (Extension Building).

This community event will feature a look back at the historic Missionary Ridge Fire with 10th anniversary presentations by Durango Fire & Rescue and La Plata County representatives. Wildfire mitigation, insurance, and landscaping specialists will be on hand with information to help homeowners prepare for future fire events.

Other activities include demonstrations, displays, fire engines, children’s activities, and an appearance by Smokey Bear. The event kicks off at 1pm with a fundraiser barbeque prepared by local firefighters and a silent auction to support wildfire education in La Plata County. Lunch is $5.00, kids under 16 eat free.

Join us for a fun-filled family afternoon and learn how you can become better prepared for wildfire season.
